Community Impact Powered by Charitable Giving
About Townshippers' Foundation
Townshippers’ Research & Cultural Foundation (Townshippers’ Foundation for brevity) is a non-profit charitable organization that invests in and engages with ideas, people, and organizations that improve the quality of life in the Eastern Townships.
Because of this, we help people who are helping people.
There is something special about the people in the Eastern Townships. We have a strong sense of community and commitment to institutions and organizations. Our people are also noted for making a difference from providing educational opportunities to running food programs, fostering literacy and supporting caregivers and seniors.
We believe in their commitment. So we provide grants for activities to groups and organizations across the region, with a special focus on projects that impact three key areas:
We work across the historic Eastern Townships, a collection of small cities, towns and villages that cover the whole of the Estrie and parts of the Centre du-Québec, Chaudière-Appalaches, and Montérégie administrative regions. It’s an area that is compared to the size of Belgium!
This is our home. A region with stunning natural landscapes that have attracted tourist since the 1850s, and a rich culture and heritage influenced by Americans, Loyalists, Irish, Scots, Abenaki and French Canadians. Steeped in dualities, our region’s French and English speakers complement and enrich each other.
While our local community is shrinking due to outmigration, we are fortunate to have passionate changemakers working to meet cultural, educational, and social needs. We all contribute to our community's well-being when we support their grassroots projects.
Our charitable nonprofit foundation was established in 1986, branching off from the non-profit community organization Townshippers’ Association. Today we still share a building and resources with the Association, but we are an independent charitable Foundation directed by a volunteer board of directors. Our goal continues to be the same: to promote the well-being of our community through the solicitation and administration of gifts and bequests from donors.
